Export and Import a Project

Purpose

This document explains how to export a project to a ZIP file and how to import a project from that ZIP file. Exporting and importing makes it easy to move projects between environments or create backups of your work.

Project Cards

Each project is represented by a card that shows key information:

  1. Initials or Logo
    • A colored square displaying the project’s initials or a customizable logo.
  2. Project Name
    • The official name of the project.
  3. Description
    • A brief overview of the project’s purpose (e.g., “Web and call center PDFs”).
  4. Date
    • The creation or last updated date of the project.
  5. Actions
    • A “...” (dot-dot-dot) menu offering the following options:
      • View: Opens the project details (same as clicking the card).
      • Edit: Brings up the project properties for editing.
      • Export: Exports the project into a ZIP file.
      • Import: Imports a project from a ZIP file.

Exporting a Project

Click Export from the project card’s Actions menu to begin the export process.

  1. Packaging
    • The system gathers and packages all project elements into a ZIP file.
  2. Notification
    • Once the ZIP file is ready, you will receive an email containing a link to download the file.
  3. Download
    • Follow the link in the email to download the ZIP file to your local system.

Note: The export process may take a few minutes, depending on the size and complexity of the project.

Importing a Project

Click Import from the project card’s Actions menu to import a project from an existing ZIP file.

  1. Select the ZIP File
    • Choose the ZIP file generated by the export process.
  2. Overwrite Prompt (If Project Already Exists)
    • If you are importing a project that already exists in your environment, you will be prompted to decide whether to overwrite the existing site content.
    • If the project is currently used in production, you may prefer not to overwrite content to avoid disrupting live workflows.
  3. Confirmation
    • The system reads in the ZIP file’s contents and updates or creates the project as needed.

Once the import process finishes, you will have a fully restored or newly created project, ready to use or further configure.

Summary

  • Export packages a project’s data into a ZIP file for backup or transfer.
  • Import reads a ZIP file created by an export and recreates the project in your environment.
  • You can choose whether to overwrite an existing production project to avoid unintended changes.

Use the export and import features to streamline moving projects from development, staging and production copilots or to maintain backups for disaster recovery.
